Finishing The Game...

Hello all!

You should all be finishing your games by now.

How should you hand in your work?
  • Create a new folder where you are going to store a copy of your game.
  • Create a new Word document and write down everything you can think of about your work; complex scripts, levels, monsters, backgrounds, etc. (screenshots will be appreciated).
Mention any other source (internet) from where you have "copied" scripts or taken ideas.
  • At the start of the document write your names, user accounts and the folder where the game has been stored.
  • Smile. :)

The Game!

Now that you are all expert programmers, is time to work on a real game!

Your game should have:

  • different levels

  • different backgrounds

  • a way to win and lose the game

  • Game rules on screen

  • etc.

Game ideas:

Easy
{focuses on sprite interaction more and uses some variables and preferable keeps score}

basket catching game-make random objects drop in random places with a random speeds and moves downward to a basket that is used to catch the objects also keeps score.

sprite adventure game- make a sprite that is controlled using a keyboard and make him go on an adventure and the game must have: enemies, ways to lose, and an objective

interactive drawing game- make a drawing game and have sprites that can move react with colours that are drawn by the user.

Hard
{involves more complicated programming with many sprites and many variables}

Platform game- similar to super mario this game must have: gravity which may or may not include acceleration, but must have gravity, platforms that a sprite can stand on, deathtraps, enemies, different rooms, and an objective

Shooter game-make a sprite that can shoot objects at enemies to score points. Whatever the bullet sprite is it must return to the player after being shot so that the player can shoot multiple times, this preferable has a script to increase difficulty. This can be integrated with a platform game

Role Playing Game- Probably the most complex of all in this game a player must defeat monsters using a battle system that involves at least: Attack Points, defense Points, Health Points, Magic Points, and preferably gold or money, experience and levels and any other things that can go into the formula of taking damage. This can or can not be turn based and game play involves the player adventuring and attacking monsters and the monsters take damage based on the battle formula that has attack points defense points ect.

You may check the Scratch official webpage to get some ideas from previous uploaded projects.

Have fun!

Database project

Hello all!

For those of you who want to raise your mark doing the 'database project', here are some tips which may help you:

What to do:

  • Design on paper how your tables will be related.
  • Start a new database:
    • First design the tables
    • Enter two records for each table to see if everything’s working fine.
    • Then design the queries. Think of what are the things that the user will need to search in the database. At least 3.
    • Test the queries by putting some more data in the tables.
    • Design the reports; one for each query. If you want you can make reports with all the information from certain tables too.
    • Test your reports to see if everything’s right. Don’t forget to check that the layout of the report: it must look nice and neat.
    • Build the forms to input data into the database.
    • Test your forms to see if they work.
    • Create a Menu (with any submenus you need) to navigate through out all your application (the use of your own macros will give you more marks).
    • Change the startup configuration so the Menu form opens automatically at the start.
    • Do anything else that can make your application look better and more useful.

There is a wide variety of possible situations where you could investigate the application of database software. These includes:

video library

garage

nursery

newsagent

milk round

hair dresser

farm

dentist

vet

stables

mail order business

accountant

pharmacist

music collection

tourist attractions

travel agent

coach hire business

driving school

social club

sports club

solicitor

dating agency

optician

builder

beauty salon

computer games

stock

restaurant

kennels

employees

The project will be evaluated as follows:

Database rubric.

Databases - Tables

Hello all! :)

Now that we have started with database tables, don't forget that you have a copy of the Tables worksheet and book pages in the Student Area.

As soon as you finish the worksheet, you have some extra ones in the same place to practice a bit.

Bye!

S2 first term ICT topics and assesment

Hello everyone!

During this term we are going to learn how to create flat and relational databases.

The assessment policy for the first term is:
Average of all tests and projects = 80%
Classwork = 20%

Important: Marks will be adjusted up or down depending on attitude and effort!(+-20%)

It is recommended to have installed Microsoft Office 2003 (English version) to work at home, as it is the one we use at school. Some time during the year we will change to OpenOffice, but don't know when yet.
Anyway, don't forget you have access to the computer room every day during the lunch break to work on the subject.

I hope you will all enjoy my subject!

Greetings,

Mr Lopez

Welcome!

Welcome to my S2 ICT blog!

This blog aims to inform both the students of S2 and their parents about: exam dates, marks, project deadlines and topics covered during the ICT lessons.

I hope that by making use of the advantages offered by new technologies, including those of this blog, we can improve communication; not only between students and teacher, but with their parents too.

Greeetings,
Mr. López
